A consultant, educator and original thinker focused on the next horizon of change for organizations, Jeff Leinaweaver combines his advanced education credentials, technical certifications and human systems knowledge to guide leaders in addressing challenges and assimilating new tools to transform their competitive contexts.
His work has entailed looking at global leaders and the role of cross-cultural communication and sustainability, ethics in CSR practice, complexity and problem solving, organizational learning and development, social psychology and human system dynamics.
For the past nine years he has headed his own sustainability practice and is concurrently an Associate and Trainer with The Natural Step, conducts PROBE Business Assessments and instructs sustainability leaders at small and medium-sized enterprises to Fortune 500 companies in the GRI Certification. He has served as Sustainability and CSR Lead for Sustainable Seattle as well as a trainer and regional organizer for The Pachamama Alliance in the Puget Sound region.
Jeff spent seven years in key human resources posts at Amazon.com, including Global Mobility HR Manager & Immigration Specialist, International Recruiter and International Launch Project Manager (Japan). He managed all global mobility and immigration issues affecting some 300 foreign nationals as well as more than fifty expatriate assignments within four subsidiaries and the parent company. In addition to managing large-scale away teams for the launch of Amazon Japan, Jeff consulted with Amazon business partners and executive management on various global immigration activities and also managed executive searches for Amazon in Japan and Europe. Early on he was an organizational and intercultural communications consultant in Nagano, Japan working with the U.S. Olympic Committee around intercultural training for athletes and staff.
He has held various teaching posts within programs at the University of Washington, Waseda and Ritsumeikan Universities in Japan, Bainbridge Graduate Institute, Capella University and Antioch University. He also helped develop Fielding University’s first curriculum on sustainability.
Jeff is the author of a new book, Storytelling for Sustainability: Deepening the Case for Change (Greenleaf Publishing; and Sedition Publishing Ltd., Oxford), is a frequent contributor to The Guardian and has also written for The Associated Press. He has authored numerous academic papers and published pieces on such topics as Designing Conversational Leadership for Sustainable Value and Innovation.
He is a Fellow at the Institute for Social Innovation at Fielding Graduate University and formerly for the CMM Institute for Personal & Social Innovation (Villanova University). Jeff holds certifications in several advanced coaching methodologies, including with Fielding Graduate University, Coach U and the International Coaching Federation – in addition to certificates for HR, organizational development and CSR/Sustainability (SA 8000 Social Sustainability Auditing).
He earned a Ph.D. in Human Development and Organizational Systems and an M.A. in Human and Organizational Development from Fielding Graduate University, an M.A. in Applied Linguistics and a Post-Graduate Diploma from the University of Surrey, U.K., and a B.A. from the University of Arizona.
